Anyone born between 1953 and 1958 must exchange their driver's license by January 19, 2022.
Here you can find out what to consider when making an exchange.
To the year
2033
million have
driving licenses
to be converted.
The
19 January 2022
is the first time a large-scale stage plan.
The reason for the exchange campaign is compliance with
EU requirements
.
Munich - People born between 1953 and 1955 must have their old
driver's license
by January 19, 2022
exchange.
There is still a year until the deadline, but many offices are already preparing for the expected mass rush.
In order to avoid chaos in the offices, the Federal Council has drawn up a step-by-step plan.
Exchanging old driving licenses: a step-by-step plan should prevent chaos
The
January 19, 2022
is just one of many times in the coming years.
By 2033, any
driver's license
issued
before January
19, 2013
must be
exchanged for a new one.
That means 15 million by December 31st.
Paper driving
licenses issued
in
1998
and around 28 million
credit card driving
licenses issued between January 1, 1999 and January 18, 2013
must be exchanged in the coming years.
The reason for this nationwide
exchange campaign
is the
EU Directive
2006/126 / EC.
According to this, driving licenses should in future be
uniform across the
EU
and, above all, forgery-proof.
In addition, the
driver's license
information should be recorded in a database to prevent misuse.
Driving license exchange: step-by-step plan is based on the year of birth and date of issue
In order to ensure that everything goes smoothly,
exchanges
in
Germany
are regulated by law.
Accordingly,
a
step-by-step
schedule was
introduced
for individual
birth or exhibition
years
in order to prevent the offices from being overloaded.
Who after the deadline continues with his old
driver's license
drives, must
expect
a
fine of 10 euros
.
While
car and motorcycle
driving licenses are
an administrative offense, lapse of the deadline for
truck and bus driving licenses is punishable
as a criminal offense.
