Diet and sports will not always lead you there.

Even if you maintain a healthy diet and adhere to a regular exercise program, there is a reasonable chance that you will not be able to achieve a flat and shapely abdominal appearance.

Excess skin left over after significant weight loss cannot be tightened by performing more and more sit-ups, and abdominal muscles that have undergone stretching and weakening following pregnancies or weight changes cannot be rehabilitated by reducing calorie intake and strenuous workout at the gym.

This can be frustrating, especially when changes in our body result in an appearance of abdominal bloating that does not improve despite all the effort.

Abdominoplasty - better known as tummy tuck surgery - can help in these cases.

Tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat, and at the same time tightens the abdominal muscle, which together results in a flatter and firmer abdominal appearance.

Sometimes it is chosen to combine with tummy tuck surgery targeted liposuction techniques in order to also improve the contours of the body.

Tummy tuck surgery can achieve excellent long-term results that can last for many years.

There is no reason to worry about the scar

The approach in tummy tuck surgery advocates reducing scars to the minimum possible, and emphasizes a beautiful, sculpted and sculpted abdominal look with a natural navel look.

Because abdominal surgery leaves an abdominal scar, it is important to make sure that the scar is well hidden in the bikini line which is lower than most low-cut swimwear and underwear.

A critical part of abdominal surgery is the work on the navel, so as not to leave the same "betrayal mark" around the navel that is not only difficult to hide but also unnecessary.

In plastic surgery there are unique techniques that give a natural look to the navel while making sure to leave all the scars hidden inside.

Tummy tuck is done only when complete with the weight

It is important to understand that the goal of tummy tuck and liposuction surgery is not weight loss, for the purpose of weight loss one has to change lifestyle (exercise and a balanced diet).

All of these actions are for body shaping only, so the most appropriate time to go through them is only when the patient is whole with himself because he is at the target weight where he plans to be for many years.

The target weight is set by everyone, as soon as I am aware that I have been trying to lose weight for years but are actually stuck with a gain or loss of a few pounds, and I accept the fact that this will probably continue - such a status is appropriate to undergo surgery at this time.

If you got it your weight - go for it.

Another consideration is that the patient's weight is within a reasonable range, which does not increase the risk of surgical complications, how do we determine that this is indeed the case?

There is a measure called BMI that takes into account the height and weight of the patient, a range of 25-30 for example is excess weight but is considered a safe range to perform surgery.

Above this range there are complications that the likelihood of occurring around the surgery increases.

Therefore in consultation with the surgeon prior to tummy tuck surgery it is important to address all of these issues and sometimes it is advisable to first lose weight in order to get into the safe range and stay at that weight for several months and only then undergo the surgery.

It should also be understood that if you have undergone such surgery and then suddenly decided to lose weight drastically or alternatively gained weight - the result will change completely.

In these cases - it is not advisable to undergo a tummy tuck

  • Smokers must stop a month and a half before surgery and not smoke a month and a half after

  • If a woman is planning to get pregnant again soon, it is best to postpone after the pregnancies

  • People with extreme obesity should consider having bariatric surgery first

  • If a person is unstable in weight - every six months looks different (accordion, up and down) - surgery is not appropriate

  • For patients with significant background illnesses it is best to consult with the attending physician first

Each tummy tuck is a little different

Dr. Aviv Kramer

Treating the appearance of the abdominal area is not as simple as one might sometimes think, and it requires a unique adjustment for each patient.

For example, in case the skin is supple and of good quality but there are certain areas full like in the lower abdomen or waist only liposuction can be satisfied, in case of excess skin sagging in the lower abdomen only it may be possible to remove the surplus (apron) only.

In case of moderate excess of skin combined with full areas and poor skin quality, there will probably be room for a full tummy tuck which says there will be a scar in the umbilical area and this is to treat all areas of the abdomen.

There are cases where the excess skin is significant in all areas of the abdomen (especially after massive weight loss) then a more complex surgery will be performed that will also leave a vertical scar in the center of the abdomen in addition to the lower scar.

In cases where there are also excess areas in the lower back and waist and the buttocks have a sagging and emptied appearance the right solution would be to do a circumferential tummy tuck with a butt lift.

Therefore, not every tummy tuck and liposuction is the same as the second, and the surgeon must decide after the examination which actions are most appropriate for each patient.

The price as expected varies greatly, both because of the difference of the operations and because of additional parameters such as the existence of an abdominal scar after old surgeries (gallbladder, cesarean) or the presence of a hernia and more.

All of these variables affect the complexity of the surgery and the duration of the surgery.

How soon do you recover from the surgery and see results?

The surgery itself is usually performed under general anesthesia, although in some places it can be performed with sensory epidural anesthesia.

The operation lasts about 3 hours, during which the excess skin and fat is removed, the abdominal muscles are tightened and liposuction is performed if necessary.

At the end of the operation, drains are usually left, these are the pipes that drain fluids from the surgical space.

These drains remain for several days until the amount of secretions decreases then the surgeon performs them an operation that is not accompanied by pain.

Immediately after the operation, they usually stay in the hospital for supervision until the next morning, when they are released home.

The operation lasted about 3 hours.

In the first days of recovery, walking is a bit hunched over due to the tension on the lower abdomen but it gets better in the first few days. Depending on the type of work, it is usually possible to return to work two weeks after the operation, however, efforts for six weeks should be avoided. There is pain in the first days after surgery but they are usually tolerable and respond well to paracetamol or Optalgin, patients are required to wear an elastic abdominal belt for 6 weeks.

When will we see a final result? Most swelling and bleeding disappears in the first two weeks, but there is still edema for several months. Also, the scars change over the course of six months to a year.

What will not improve after tummy tuck and liposuction? If there is abdominal fullness (intra-abdominal fat) it will not change, and the abdomen will have an apple appearance even after surgery, stretch marks on the skin (streaks) change their location and maran but remain, old scars that have not been removed in the lower abdomen will also change position but remain. To lose belly fat the only way is weight loss, and for scar treatment and stretch marks there are a variety of other treatments.
