A 23-year-old has to answer before the Ingolstadt district court from Wednesday for manslaughter caused by his frenzy on the motorway.

In October 2019, the man is said to have driven into a car in front of him on the A9 near Manching near Ingolstadt in his high-powered vehicle in the fast lane at well over 200 kilometers per hour.

The 22-year-old driver of the rammed car died on the spot.

"Deep regret"

A process for this had already started last year.

In the course of the proceedings, however, one of the parties involved dropped out for a long time, so the process had to be discontinued.

Now the criminal proceedings start all over again.

Ten days of negotiations are planned until March.

The accused has to answer for manslaughter and illegal car racing.

In the first trial, he admitted that he had rammed the car and emphasized his deep regret over the death of the 22-year-old.

According to the indictment, the person who caused the accident was said to have been traveling at a speed of at least 232 kilometers per hour.

His defense lawyers should be in the new process in particular to rebut the legal allegations in order to achieve a lower sentence.

Because in the past, similar traffic offenses were often only charged as negligent homicide in the local courts.

Tougher line of the prosecution

But the public prosecutor's offices have been following a harder line for several years.

Just a few days ago, a murder trial began in Munich against a 35-year-old who is said to have killed a youth while fleeing a police checkpoint.

In addition, since 2017, illegal car races have been sanctioned more heavily as a criminal offense.

According to the paragraph created at the time, a prohibited race is not only defined as a competition between two or more drivers on public roads.

Even a driver who travels alone with his car "in order to achieve the highest possible speed" can be sentenced.

If another person dies, they face up to ten years imprisonment just because of the speeding paragraph
