On the one hand, the covid and the pandemic blocked Subsonica's live projects (last year's tour was postponed and the question still remains about when it can be held, meanwhile he is ready for more intimate solo concerts), from other "in this period of closure and introspection", Samuel (frontman of the Turin band, of which he belongs together with Max Casacci and Boosta) "granted himself the right and the freedom to write very songwriting songs".
And so was born Brigatabianca, his second solo album four years after Il Codice Della Bellezza (published in February 2017, on the occasion of his participation in the Sanremo festival), which comes out on January 22.
A record that draws on the artist's history and his emotionality, all filtered by an acute and sensitive vision that refers to the multifaceted image of a musician who comes to terms with his maturity and personal growth, as well as artistic.
"In the last two years I have made an emotionally bumpy journey - says Samuel, in connection with Zoom from his Turin studio, where he took refuge in the last difficult months and from which he also gave a mini-live -. An explosive period, which It helped me to understand what I no longer wanted and to focus my life. So, for this album I went to choose the songs that best represented this decision. The basis of my future life. In general, however, let's talk about the period of uncertainties: but artists have been talking about no future for at least 10 years, we live in a world that lives on the present ".
Anticipated by the singles Tra un Anno e Cocoricò (story of a good night a few years ago by Subsonica and Bluvertigo), the disc features 15 tracks (some pre-pandemic, others born during), in which a great variety of suggestions are found and ideas, linked to each other by the Brigatabianca to which Samuel dedicates the title: the group of friends and colleagues who worked with him in the birth of this recording project.
Among the collaborations, the five feat with Colapesce, Fulminacci, Willie Peyote (all three competing in Sanremo, "are very strong and my advice is: try to get away from everything that happens behind the scenes"), Ensi and Johnny Marseille, in addition to the various producers who participated: Ale Bavo, Dade, MACE & Venerus, Machweo, Michele Canova, Federico Nardelli and Strage.
Among the musicians also the touch of Roy Paci.
Brigatabianca is also a way for Samuel to regain possession of his identity: "With The Code of Beauty I completely moved away from my sound world to be taken with the production in the pop chart - says the singer, who listened as a kid" De André, Fossati, De Gregori, Conte and then spend Saturday night in the disco. "- With Brigatabianca, on the other hand, I felt the need to go back to being myself, regaining possession of electronics, my musical ground, mixing it, and it's not for nothing easy, with the songwriting vein and holding the keys to my work from beginning to end ".
Regaining one's identity even with respect to working with the band, "where you are never 100% yourself, because you have to leave room for others too, but the secret of Subsonica is also linked to the fact that there are no leaders and each of us he allowed himself the freedom and madness to question Subsonica to feed himself and his creative side, which will then feed Subsonica forever ".
On the cover of the album Samuel in a new guise: on his uniform, a military-inspired jacket of a "contemporary hussar", a series of highly evocative geometric symbols are embroidered - taking the place of decorations and medals - is associated with a specific track on the disc.
