  • The

    supermarket chain Edeka is

    recalling

    various

    baked goods

    in

    southwest Germany

    .

  • The reason is a mistake by the

    hazelnut supplier to

    the

    K&U

    bakery

    chain

    .

  • The

    eight products

Neuchâtel - Well, what's cracking there?

A

hazelnut

supplier is causing worry lines at Edeka branches in southwest Germany and a whole series of food recalls at once.

The product warnings for

cakes and pastries

come from the

K&U bakery group

from Neuchâtel, Baden-Württemberg.

In addition to its own bakery branches and bakery service counters, the

chain

primarily

supplies

the

food

markets

of Edeka, Marktkauf and nah & gut.

Edeka and K&U

are now

recalling

all

fine baked goods and Linz products

with

hazelnuts

in these stores

: "Due to a mistake at the

supplier of hazelnuts, it

cannot be ruled out that there are isolated

pieces of wire

 in the products." The

K&U bakery group

attaches great importance to product safety and regrets this incident very much, the manufacturer wrote on.

Edeka Südwest announced that the recalled pastries had been sold in parts of

Bavaria

,

Baden-Württemberg

,

Rhineland-Palatinate

,

Saarland

and

southern Hesse

.

Caution: danger of suffocation: Edeka is recalling various baked goods because of hazelnuts

Food contamination can be dangerous.

Even small foreign bodies, such as the

pieces of wire

in the Edeka biscuits, can cause stab wounds

in

the mouth, esophagus

or

stomach

lead

.

If

the

foreign body

is

swallowed, there

is often a

risk of suffocation

.

Food recalls

must therefore be taken seriously.

As a precautionary measure, consumers should avoid consuming the following eight products.

Customers can

return

the

baked goods

at the sales outlets

and get the

price refunded even without a receipt.

The following

loose

K&U

baked goods

are

affected

at

Edeka

:

  • "Linzerschnitte"

  • "Winding ring"

  • "Nut wreath"

  • "Viennese wreath"

  • "Nut cream cake"

  • and "Nussi Sand Sponge Cake"

In addition, there is the packaged product

“Made with a heart |

Linzerschnitte 500 g “

  with a

best before

date

up to and including

March 21, 2021

.

At the bakery service counters,

the "Linzertorte, 600 g" is

packed with a best-before date up to and including

March 21

,

2021

.

Recall due to metal pieces: Why are there more and more warnings?

Food recalls

are not uncommon in Germany.

Foreign bodies and pieces of metal

 are the most common complaints.

The baked goods at Edeka are therefore in good company.

If contamination and a health hazard is identified, the local

food control

facility reports

 the relevant product to the

competent

 state authority

.

Checked recall messages can be found on the portal Lebensmittelwarnung.de.

Here, consumers can keep up to date on recalls.
