SAN GIMIGNANO (SIENA) - An arena with a thousand seats for theater and opera in place of what was once an hour of air for inmates, a panoramic route for visitors from which to admire the skyline of San Gimignano (Siena ) instead of the patrol walkway, an accommodation facility with a conference area and then more spaces to host local craft shops, agribars and multimedia galleries.
It is the future of the former prison and former convent of San Domenico in the famous city of towers according to the project of restoration and enhancement of the vast area, 7 thousand square meters in the heart of the historic center, and owned by the Municipality of San Gimignano and the Region Tuscany.
This project will be carried out by Opera Laboratori Fiorentini spa, with its subsidiary Opera San Gimignano srl, which was awarded the tender for project financing published following the first agreement in Italy signed in 2011 with Mibact and Demanio for the cultural enhancement of a state property.
"The restoration will last for three years and will ask the company for an investment of 20 million euros" explains in a well-known Opera Laboratori Fiorentini spa, highlighting that "the challenge will start in the spring of 2021".
The signing of the concession contract will be held on Thursday 28 January in San Gimignano with a meeting with the press (12 noon, Sala Dante of the Palazzo Comunale) attended by the mayor of the city of towers Andrea Marrucci and the president of Opera Laboratori Beppe Costa.
