Covid: Belgium, cases increase again, + 5% from January 16-22

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JANUARY 26 - The average number of SARS-Cov-2 infections is increasing in Belgium, with 2,119 new daily casinos registered in the period from January 16 to 22 (+ 5% compared to the previous period).

Hospitalizations, up 17%, average 135 per day between January 19 and 25, according to provisional data from the Institute of Public Health Sciensano released this morning.

    The number of people currently hospitalized due to Covid-19 is 1,958 (+ 2%), of which 324 are in intensive care (+ 1%). From 16 to 22 January an average of 49.9 people per day died from the coronavirus (-3.6%), for a total of 20,814 since the emergence of the virus in Belgium. In addition, nearly 42,600 tests were performed per day, with a positive rate of 5.6%. The incidence from 9 to 22 January is 252.6 new cases every 100,000 inhabitants (+ 14%), while the reproduction rate is 1.08.


    Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium, 694,858 cases of the coronavirus have been detected. To date, 192,100 people have received the first dose of the vaccine. (HANDLE).
