2020 was a tough year - that shouldn't come as a surprise.

Companies as well as consumers felt this.

The consequence?

Many contract terminations.

The Corona year 2020 bothered many people - also in

financial terms

.

Many companies felt this in turn.

The contract manager Volders, who takes care of contract terminations, has now published statistics that show

which companies and industries had to cope with the most terminations

.

The termination index: 2020 was the hardest for these companies and industries

A contract termination on the part of the customer is not nice for any company.

The telecommunications industry was hit particularly hard in 2020, with almost 20 percent of all layoffs, reports contract manager Volders.

Volders put through around 31,000 terminations for Telekom customers alone

, placing Europe's largest telecommunications company at the top of the ranking.

A colleague from the industry took second place:

Vodafone had to accept

around

28,000 layoffs

.

A company from the communications industry is also in third place: O2 lost around 23,000 customers in 2020.

4th place is occupied by the fitness studio chain McFit

with around 17,600 layoffs, which are mainly due to the two lockdowns.

In turn, the telecommunications company

Mobilcom-Debitel

ranks fifth

with around 16,400

terminations.

For the three telecommunications companies that took first place among themselves,

the most common reason for termination was of a financial nature

, an obvious consequence of the corona pandemic.

A poor price-performance ratio was the third most common cause given by consumers.

Meaningful contract terminations - it's not just Corona to blame

Half of the places in the top 10 companies with the most layoffs are held by a company in the telecommunications industry -

18.5 percent of

all layoffs in 2020 were due to the industry.

That makes up the largest part of this year's index.

While on the one hand the cause of this is of course the corona pandemic, on the other hand another insight must not be swept under the table:

Many customers were obviously not satisfied with their provider or contract in 2020.

Because probably only very few completely forego the service in a year in which you were stuck at home more often than usual.

Most contracts were terminated by a

new provider with supposedly better conditions

.

This fact, as the Chief Marketing Officer of Volders, Mathias Rhode, also comments, should cause the companies in the future to understand the figures as criticism, to evaluate the services and

to create more advantageous offers

for the customer

.

Incidentally, all data from the Volders analysis are available here.
