On the A95 near Antdorf in Bavaria, a car came off the lane and was thrown through the air.
Both occupants of the vehicle died in the accident on Monday afternoon.
According to the police, a black BMW was driving on the motorway from Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the direction of Munich when it suddenly turned right off the lane at around 5.15 p.m.
The car had rammed a guardrail, was thrown into the air and flew 25 meters before it hit a group of trees at a height of three meters and got stuck there.
The two inmates, a 23-year-old man from Munich and a 20-year-old woman from the Fürstenfeldbruck district, were trapped in the car as a result of the violent impact and died in the vehicle, according to the police.
Due to the position and condition of the car, the rescuers who had arrived could not have provided first aid.
Motorway closed for several hours
According to the information, a total of 38 emergency services were on site to cut the car out of the trees and to rescue the bodies.
The motorway was completely closed for several hours.
Why the car got off the road is still unclear.
The vehicle has been secured and is now to be examined.
Since there have been no eyewitnesses to the accident so far, the Weilheim traffic police station asks for information.
