A doctor has been arrested in northern Italy and placed under house arrest for allegedly killing two corona patients.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the man of deliberately administering a muscle blocker to the sick in March, during the first Corona wave in Italy, which led to the death of the two, the police said.

Carlo M. from the emergency department of a hospital near Brescia is accused according to "Corriere della sera" of having administered the deadly drugs to corona patients to make room for newcomers.

The newspaper quotes from WhatsApp messages from two hospital employees that the investigators have received.

"I don't kill anyone just because they want to clear beds," wrote one of them.

"I'm not doing that, it's crazy," confirms his colleague.

The Italian news agency Ansa also reports that the doctor wanted to free beds and capacities from the hospital staff.

According to the investigators, a few weeks later they received information that the death of the two patients had been brought about.

As a result, experts exhumed the bodies of the deceased in order to examine them, and proved the anesthetic.

It is typically used when intubating patients to sedate them.

However, it can lead to death if the wrong dose

The police put the man under house arrest on Monday and Ansa said he would be heard on Friday.

After the allegations against M. became known, colleagues also stood behind the doctor.

The situation at the time was dramatic, many patients came to the hospital very late with the most severe Covid 19 symptoms.

"We are sure that he administered the medication to patients who would not have lived longer than an hour," the "Corriere della sera" quotes a doctor from the hospital.

“He worked like a madman.

Why would he want to kill someone? "

The hospital affected is in Lombardy, a region that was particularly hard hit by the pandemic in March.

In Italy, more than 86,000 people have died with Sars-CoV-2 since the pandemic began.

The authorities have so far registered more than 2.485 million corona infections.

Around 10,600 new infections and around 540 corona deaths were recorded on Tuesday.
