"We want to avoid an epidemic in the epidemic" declared Olivier Véran during a press conference to take stock of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The Minister of Health clarified that France was "on an increasing plateau", with just over 20,000 positive cases for the coronavirus per day on average.

Despite the "control" of the number of patients in intensive care, Olivier Véran believes that "the effectiveness of the curfew at 6 pm is fading".

It is the English and South African variants that worry the minister.

“We have gone from 500 patients per day with these variants at the beginning of January, to more than 2,000 per day currently”, informs Olivier Véran.

Most contaminations concern the English variant.

"These variants, I consider them to be new viruses", assures the Minister of Health.

The number of contaminations has increased by 10% per week for three weeks, we learned at the conference.

And despite the positive points of the curfew, without which "we would have had an epidemic wave", Olivier Véran ensures that "this measure is no longer sufficient in the face of variants".
