The new literary year is about to come up with a new revealing book about King Charles III. It will be released on 18 January.

Not a day goes by without news from the British aristocratic family. While Crown Prince Frederik was recently proclaimed king in Denmark, the British Isles are dealing with a completely different issue. Whether the name Lilibet for Harry and Meghan's daughter was coordinated with the Queen dominates the media. The biography "Charles III: New King, New Court", written by Daily Mail writer Robert Hardman and published on January 18, also pours gasoline on the fire.

The book caused a stir even before it was published, as the "Daily Mail" published excerpts in advance. It quotes a royal aide-de-camp who claims to have never seen Elizabeth II so angry in the summer of 2021, writes web.de. The occasion was statements by Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, that the Queen had given them permission to use their nickname for Harry and Meghan's second child.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 was a moment of deep shock and grief for the nation. She had been a constant companion for seventy years, but now suddenly the future of the monarchy rested on the shoulders of her son, who was then seventy-three years old. No new monarch had spent more time preparing for such a day than King Charles, but he faced many challenges.

Two years ago, the BBC had already reported something similar. The Queen's consent to the use of her nickname has been questioned, according to a palace source who claimed she was "never asked." This was spread on Twitter by Jonny Dymond, a correspondent for the royal family, which led to Harry and Meghan potentially having to call in their lawyers. A statement denying the allegations was released. He stressed that he had discussed his daughter's name with his grandmother before the child's birth, according to The Sun.

In June 2021, the Sussexes announced the birth of their baby girl. In their message, they said, "She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we continue to be grateful for the love and prayers we have received from around the world." They added to their announcement by saying, "Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen in honour of her beloved late grandmother, the Princess of Wales".

Red box with sealed letters

The newly published book "Charles III: New King, New Court" also reveals that an employee had brought a sealed, red box that was discovered at the place where the Queen died. Various items were found in the box, including two sealed letters: one to her son and designated successor, Charles III, and the other to Sir Edward Young, Charles III's private secretary. What exactly was in the letters remains unknown, according to The Sun. However, the contents of the letters suggest that the queen may have foreseen her imminent death.

Robert Hardman is no stranger to royal coverage. He also wrote "Queen of our Times – The Life of Elizabeth II" in 2022. The most beautiful biographies of Queen Elizabeth can be found here. When "Charles III: New King. New Court" in German is still unclear at the time of the article (16.01.2024).
