A two-year-old and six-month-old boy was hospitalized in serious condition

due to the burns he suffered, after his mother (24) tried to set her ex-partner's car on fire, and the flames reached both her and her son, in the Santiago city of La Banda.

The incident, which came to light this Friday, occurred last Saturday around 2:30 p.m., when the woman arrived at her ex-partner's home, in the

Salido neighborhood

, aboard a motorcycle and accompanied by her son.

The woman, who had

a can of gasoline

with her , got out and began spraying the front of her ex's car, which was on the sidewalk.

She also broke the windshield so that gasoline could enter the vehicle and

threw a lit cigarette

.

However, the fire did not activate and, with the gas can in hand,

he lit a piece of plastic with a lighter.

That situation immediately generated

flames that reached

her legs.

Seeing her with fire, her son approached to help her and

was also hit by the flames.

The fire caused the glass of the Volkswagen Surán to burst, which would have caused his ex-partner to go out into the street alerted by the noises.

Quickly,

the man wrapped his son in a blanket

and took him to the Banda Comprehensive Health Center.

Then, due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the Eva Perón Provincial Children's Health Center (Cepsi).

For her part, the young mother was helped by the man's new partner and was taken to the same hospital, where she was admitted with injuries to her legs and was out of danger, as a

detainee.

The worst part went to the boy who was admitted with "burns from direct fire and inhalation syndrome from the fire" and

this Friday he continued in serious condition

.

According to the last medical report, she was on "mechanical respiratory assistance and antibiotics."

The report also noted that she remained "under the control of critical area medical professionals and burn specialists."

In the case, the prosecutor on duty, Hugo Herrera, intervened, who ordered various investigations, including the seizure of the drum with remains of gasoline and the car to be examined.

While

the reason for the woman's actions is being investigated

, the prosecutor is waiting for her recovery to take an investigative statement.
