Customers are divided over Rügenwalder Mühle's decision
“I am pleasantly surprised that a company as big as Rügenwalder is taking this step with its flagship product.
I think that’s the most positive sign,” said one customer on Facebook.
“This is really a step in the right direction,” say vegans happily.
But not all customers are convinced.
"Catastrophe!
The right ham spiker is simply delicious!”, says one user.
“You can still produce the meat version…” says a disappointed customer.
The company now offers twice as many meat substitute products as meat products - and, according to
Bild
, makes more sales than non-vegan products.
Nevertheless, the products are usually not much more expensive than meat.
These are particularly popular with women under 50. Switching to fewer meat products will free up more capacity in factories for vegan products.
Rügenwalder Mühle manager Michael Hähnel explains his decision: “This shift in the range is not an effect that we are only seeing now in the current Veganuary, but rather a long-term development.”
