Supermarkets and discounters reduce the contents of food without customers noticing.
A deceptive package seems particularly bold.
Munich – In recent months, many customers have been annoyed by deceptive packaging in supermarkets and discounters.
These hidden price increases are packaged in such a way that customers usually don't notice them at all.
Rewe customer is looking forward to food - and is bitterly disappointed
Whether deceptive packaging, shrinkflation or skimpflation: In the last few months, new terms have repeatedly appeared for hidden price increases in supermarkets and discounters such as Rewe, Aldi, Lidl and Edeka.
Due to the packaging, deceptive packages deceive the real quantity or nature of the contents.
Particularly bold deceptive packages even receive the title of “deceptive package of the month” – this is awarded by the Hamburg consumer advice center.
The deceptive packages repeatedly find their way onto social media and networks such as Instagram, X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit.
In the “Shrinklation” subreddit, hidden price increases are denounced and discussed.
A user now showed what he saw as an extremely brazen case of deceptive packaging.
He posted three pictures of the Rewe product “Yes!
Pitaroll Chicken Jalapeño”.
Seen from the outside, the food looks like a consistent role - the user should be mistaken.
Obvious deception at Rewe: “That’s fraud”
As you should notice after opening the package, there are only two small rolls instead of one large one.
The cardboard in the middle of the two rolls was apparently placed so cleverly that customers couldn't see it.
The Reddit user is sure: “This is a scam.” In a very short time, the Reddit post received almost 2,000 upvotes and 150 comments.
Most of the users were on the side of the Rewe customer and shared their own experiences.
What was apparently disguised as a continuous roll turned out to be two individual and small wraps.

“It happened to me too.
Of course it’s intentional, but it’s not a scam,” commented one user.
He recommended that the Rewe customer pay attention to the weight next time.
Another also stated that it was not fraud, "but as a non-lawyer I would classify it as deception." Another went even further: "The scrap should be taken back, that's really the boldest thing to do."
