Ashley Park, the actress of Emily in Paris but also of Beef and Mean Girls on Broadway, ended up in intensive care in Dubai after falling victim to a serious infection while on holiday in the Maldives with her partner (and co-star ) Paul Forman.
Posting on Instagram, 32-year-old Ashley revealed that she had suffered "very serious septic shock", but that fortunately "the worst is now over".
The actress, who plays Mindy Chen, Emily's friend in the Netflix series set in Paris, said she was urgently transferred from the Maldives to Dubai to be treated.
Alongside the photos of her from the hospital bed, there are thanks to the doctors, nurses and friends who helped her by hosting Forman while she was hospitalised.
As a young girl, Ashley spent eight months in hospital for leukemia: she attributes her decision to become an actress to the disease after being brought to Broadway as a spectator by the Make a Wish Foundation to see shows such as Lion King and Wicked.
This time it all started with poorly treated tonsillitis during the New Year holidays.
The infection, which degenerated into septic shock, spread "in a spiral" affecting several organs: "I am grateful that my health has improved despite what we were initially told," said the actress.
Septic shock is a serious manifestation of sepsis: a potentially lethal syndrome characterized by widespread malfunction of multiple organs simultaneously.
Patients show signs of confusion and neurological deterioration, while blood pressure drops dramatically.
The skin is initially warm, but as the situation worsens, the limbs become cold and patchy.
Finally, organ failure occurs, with different manifestations: the suffering of the kidneys leads to the production of little urine, in the case of the lungs there is difficulty breathing.
