"Environmental sustainability means improving the quality of production, limiting the impact of potentially harmful factors on the environment, but it does not mean giving up income. Ensuring economic sustainability and social activity in the area is a duty that we feel on our shoulders and we believe we must work together to other Nations in this sense".
Thus the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, speaking at the working session "Promoting resilient and sustainable supply chains" of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (Gffa) underway in Berlin.
This was reported in a press release from the ministry.
"Italy has focused on quality and balanced distribution of the supply chains. This year we are investing around two and a half billion, aware that we need to invest to strengthen this model, avoiding competition based exclusively on price.
Italy invests in workers' rights, in the environment , and this has a cost. Therefore forms of competition must be regulated taking into account the cost of production factors", added the Minister.
"With the Mattei Plan we work to guarantee areas of the planet that have immense availability of arable areas, such as Africa, to develop training and technological equipment actions to achieve food self-sufficiency.
We want to respond to demographic growth with agriculture, with sustainable farming", underlined Lollobrigida.
"We do not give up on the idea of laboratory production of cultivated, synthetic meat. We do not believe that our stables can be replaced by industries, or laboratories by our fields. It must be reiterated that the farmer is the first environmentalist on the planet, because his source is in the earth of income, its heritage that is often passed down for generations", concluded Minister Lollobrigida.
