While some wild animals fight for their lives during floods, there are other animals that cleverly save themselves from the floods - like this little mole.

A heartbreaking video from Great Britain shows that flooding can not only be dangerous for people, but also pose a threat to wild animals.

Animal rights activists filmed a mole who had to paddle for his life during the floods in the kingdom.

The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust then published the touching clip on

:

The charity for the protection and improvement of wildlife and habitats wrote: “This incredible little mole was spotted swimming in floodwaters at Attenborough Nature Reserve today!

It is amazing that a rare species is so resilient and gives hope that wildlife can survive and adapt to these events, which are becoming increasingly common as climate change occurs.”

Moles are skilled survivors

Moles are good swimmers - provided they make it out of their underground tunnels in time.

As

Geo

reports, moles are adept at surviving in floods.

According to this, the animals can often “save themselves if they react quickly enough.” This is because the small mammal is a good swimmer, but usually avoids contact with the water.

While it is still possible for the animals to move in time if the water rises slowly, a rise that is too rapid could be fatal, as Jenifer Calvi from the German Wildlife Foundation informs.

Where do moles move during floods?

If the small insect eaters have to move due to flooding and manage to get out of the floods in time, they build so-called swamp castles above the ground, which they then move into.

These castles are actually hills and can grow up to a meter high and a diameter of up to one and a half meters.

This is what Geo

reports

online.

Heroic mole manages to save himself

However, in the case of the small mole from the video, there is no need to worry.

According to the animal rights activists who recorded the video, the insect-eater managed to escape to solid ground under its own power.

The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust confirmed this in the comments section on

Facebook

: “We can confirm that the mole was fine.

The team monitored flooding in the nature reserve and discovered the mole.

They took the opportunity to film him as he approached them and tried to help him, but he didn’t need any help and found dry land on his own.”

Victoria Louise House, one of the

Facebook

users who commented on the video, describes a special encounter with a mole and describes its fascinating way of swimming: “Many years ago (…) I saw one (editor's note: mole ) seen crossing the street.

It's like a clockwork toy.

The front leg and the opposite hind leg move.

Then he switches the front leg and the other hind leg.”
