"I always fear being that boring grandmother that I am, but in the pessimism that pervades me and doesn't give me this great hope, I would like to be able to cultivate at least one, that is, that today's young people are capable of making the choice."
Senator for life Liliana Segre said this during the presentation of the initiatives that will be held in Milan in view of the Day of Remembrance, which is held on January 27 to remember the victims of Nazi-fascism.
The senator, a tireless witness to the horrors of the Holocaust, spoke in her speech of those who during the times of fascism had made the choice not to be indifferent to what was happening.
"For 30 years I have gone to schools to speak and I have always advised my ideal grandchildren, these wonderful kids, to break away from that love for that idiotic mobile phone - she added -, which takes them to distant and unknown worlds that are not for them but I am against them. To make the choice, because the choice is every minute, it is choosing which book to read and read, because culture is so important".
"How to address your parents, someone today calls them by name and no longer calls them mum and dad - she concluded she - she. She takes away that biblical role from them".
