"The overlap between the legitimate criticisms of the Netanyahu government and the identification of the Jewish communities in the world as alleged accomplices of the choices is intolerable: it identifies a sort of cause-effect whereby, since the Israeli government strikes the civilian population of Gaza, it would be justifiable to attack any exponent of Judaism, the places he frequents and the symbols that represent him. It would therefore be justifiable to prevent the participation of goldsmiths at the Vicenza fair just because they come from Israel and to attack the policemen who guarantee their presence".

Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano said this, presenting the initiatives for Remembrance Day sponsored by the Presidency of the Council, together with the president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, Noemi Di Segni, and the national coordinator for the fight against anti-Semitism, Pasquale Angelosanto .

"The government rejects this overlap and - he added - believes that what has happened in the Middle East since 7 October, and the reaction of the Tel Aviv government to the terrorist aggression of Hamas represents only the opportunity used instrumentally to virulently bring out anti-Semitism which was already there and wasn't even that latent."

"In recent weeks, among rectors, teachers, politicians, institutional figures, we have heard words relating to the Shoah used, distorted, out of context, turned towards Israel and the Jews".

The president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, Noemi Di Segni, said this, avoiding naming names but referring "to the way in which the Roman greeting depends on contexts and circumstances, to the use of the term genocide in the comments on the trial at the Court of 'Aja.'

"And - she added - with extreme respect, it also concerns the Church: we have heard appeals that belittle the recognition of 7 October as a terrorist act".

"For security reasons - Di Segni announced - we were unable to organize the Remembrance marathon. Those who raise their arms in the Roman salute and the squadrismo of the social centers are free to demonstrate, almost protected by a constitutional freedom. It is aberrant that citizens cannot run freely. It is a commitment of coherence to which we ask attention."

"Two cities in Calabria" were involved in the organization.
