After the parenthesis of the pandemic, for the next state exam the return to the original regulations could be complete: PCTO and INVALSI mandatory for admission and with the possibility of a second multidisciplinary test (ANSA)

PCTO as a requirement for admission to the exam and partially revised oral interview.

But also the subject - or subjects - of the second test and disciplines entrusted to the external commissioners.

Here are the main "unpublished" aspects of the 2024 Maturity. However, no upheavals, but only a "

maintenance of the current version

", as stated by the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara.

Also because substantial changes would require a legislative passage, which is not currently on the agenda.

In a few days we will know more: by the end of January, for example, Viale Trastevere will have to dissolve the reservation on the subjects designated for the second written orientation test and on their assignment to the external component of the commission.

And, probably, that will be the opportunity to dot the

"maintenance"

announced by the Minister.

The specialized portal Skuola.net has tried to outline a guide to the 2024 Maturity based on the elements that have emerged so far.

The school-work alternation requirement for admission to the exam

Even if little is said about it, it is very likely that, in order to be admitted to the state exam, the graduates will have to have completed the PCTO (Paths on Transversal Skills and Orientation ), the old school-work alternation, as expected for one's study path.

That is: at least 90 hours of extra-curricular training if you attend a high school, at least 150 if you are enrolled in a technical institute, 210 basic hours if you are in a professional institute;

to be completed during the last three years of school.

This requirement was one of the pillars of the last organic reform of the Maturity (dated 2017).

But for various reasons, including the pandemic, its implementation had been extended year after year.

Given that in the Milleproroghe, an instrument used in the past to postpone its entry into operation, there is no trace of such measures, it seems that this round is the right time.

A "tweak" to the oral interview is more than a possibility.

But Minister Valditara also anticipated a

"tweak"

to the oral interview, the final act of the exam.

While recognizing the goodness of the current version of the face-to-face meeting between the students and the commission, the manager of Viale Trastevere would like the oral discussion not to be reduced to a simple

"question"

.

For this reason, he underlined the desire to make it increasingly a tool

"To understand what the student has understood, if he has understood how to make interdisciplinary connections, if he has assimilated the notions"

.

Only the ordinance on Maturity, now imminent, will definitively clarify what he meant with these words.

It being understood that the law does not change: the interview will focus on all the topics of all the subjects studied during the last year, including civic education as well as the report on the PCTO projects carried out.

One or two subjects?

The dilemma of the second written test

Another point of attention, which will find satisfaction within a week or so, is that relating to the main subjects of the writings, primarily the address one.

If the MIM were to respect the usual deadlines, by January 31st it will make public the list of disciplines and the commissioner to whom they will be assigned, whether internal or external.

What, however, many have not considered is that, with legislation in hand, the second piece of writing, in some study courses, could be based on more than one characterizing subject: for example, in the scientific high school, both mathematics and physics could happen;

at classical high school, both Latin and Greek.

If the Ministry wanted to return to an examination as closely as possible to the spirit of the reform, it could opt for this last solution, already tested before the pandemic.

There are very few days left to find out what he will decide.

Mandatory mixed and INVALSI commissions confirmed.

After that, fortunately, the unknowns end here.

The rest of the exam structure is quite clear and follows the reference law currently in force.

This year too, in addition to the PCTOs (except for last-minute backtracking), the admission requirements for the exam will include having taken the INVALSI upper fifth level tests, scheduled for the month of March: it will be sufficient to take, the outcome will not influence the outcome of the Maturity in the slightest.

To complete the list of entry requirements for the tests, it will then take at least a 6 in all school subjects, including conduct.

Even if teachers could "turn a blind eye" to a single failure, as long as the class council adequately motivates the choice to let the student pass anyway.

Lastly, you will need to have attended lessons for at least 75% of the total hours.

Another certainty is also the composition of the examination commission: 3 internal professors from their own school, 3 external ones from other institutes, 1 president (always external), for a total of 7 commissioners.

The main events of the 2024 Maturity

Finally, the most important step: the actual exam.

The appointment, for all students who will be admitted, is for Wednesday 19 June, when we will begin with the usual first Italian test.

Graduates will be able to try their hand at one of the seven proposed tracks: 2 of text analysis, based on an Italian literature text produced from the unification of Italy onwards;

3 argumentative text options, based on various disciplines;

2 current topics.

The next day, Thursday 20 June, it will be the turn of the dreaded second test, which as mentioned will focus on one or more subjects characterizing the course of study.

Closing the triptych of tests will be the oral interview, which will start immediately after the publication of the results of the writings: a multidisciplinary path, which will have to start from a topic proposed by the individual commissions to the candidate in question, accompanied by a report (or an elaborate ) on the PCTO experience and a collective discussion on the outcome of the written tests.

Some, however, will have to take a third written test.

They are the students of the ESABAC, ESABAC techno sections, of the international option courses, of the schools of the autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta and of the autonomous Province of Bolzano, of the schools with Slovenian teaching language and with bilingual Slovenian/Italian teaching of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

How the exam score is formed

To complete the picture of essential information on the 2024 Maturity, all that remains is to talk about the structure of the score - always expressed as 100/100 - which is also unchanged compared to last year: the three exam tests will give students up to 20 points each.

The rest will be made by the credits accumulated by the students graduating during the last three years of high school: a maximum of 40 points.

To pass the mission, you will need a minimum of 60 points overall.

Those who would like to aspire to top marks, but are unable to achieve it through school credits and exams, can hope for the help of the commission: the professors, in fact, will have up to 5 bonus points that they can assign to the most deserving students, i.e. those who have at least 30 starting credits and will have accumulated at least 50 points during the final tests.

To get 100/100 with honors, however, it will be essential to have completed a clear path, 60 points between written and oral exams and an admission score of 40;

only in this way will the commission be authorized to award the honorable mention.
