Shopping in the supermarket can be a challenge.

But with a few tricks at the checkout you can make everyday life easier for yourself and the staff.

Kassel – How should the bottles be placed on the checkout conveyor now?

And are product dividers really that important?

Cashiers always point out common customer mistakes.

The TikTok account “The Branch Manager” has made it its mission to educate people about hurdles in everyday supermarket life.

And inspires millions of fans.

“Golden Rules at the checkout”: You should avoid these customer mistakes

The TikTok video says that the work of the cashier can be made easier with just a few tricks.

An employee of the discounter giant Lidl explains “the golden rules at the checkout,” which would also benefit customers.

First of all, bottles should never be placed standing on the checkout conveyor.

This has been discussed again and again in the past, but it is apparently not entirely clear to some customers.

“It always amazes me that some people still don’t understand the bottles,” wrote one user under the video.

If the bottles are placed on the conveyor belt, they can easily fall down.

This not only costs time, but is dangerous, especially with glass bottles.

Bottles should also always be placed lengthways and not across the belt.

Otherwise, just roll it further back as soon as the belt starts moving.

Error at the supermarket checkout: Lidl branch manager warns customers

Another mistake at the supermarket checkout also seems to be particularly time-consuming.

According to the TikTok video, there are customers who don't even clear out their goods, but simply place the box of groceries on the checkout conveyor belt.

“There are people who put their boxes there?” asked one user, puzzled.

This happens “every day,” replied the Lidl branch manager.

If paying with your EC card at the checkout doesn't work, there are also some tips.

In addition, it makes sense to position items with discount stickers in such a way that the checkout staff can recognize them directly.

This can save heated discussions later about the correct price.

Product dividers can also make the work of staff easier.

“People who don’t use separators.

“It makes me really angry,” commented another user, who obviously works in retail herself.

“I do this 6-7 hours a day and can’t always pay attention to where the shopping ends.”

“It goes without saying”: Lidl employees show customer errors at the checkout

Most TikTok users showed understanding in the comments.

“That’s actually self-evident,” they say, for example.

Others gave further tips for easy shopping in the supermarket: “If you buy a bag and want to use it straight away, don’t put the goods on it or put the bag at the end.”

Some users, on the other hand, seemed less enthusiastic about the educational video.

“You mean in the 10 seconds you give the customer while you scan at the speed of light and run the tape while hanging up?” protested one.

“Should I still collect the money myself?” joked another.

We can only hope that the information will make life easier for at least some customers and cashiers.
