A merger of European, administrative and in some cases even regional ones, as for Piedmont.

The council of ministers has given the green light for election day which will be held on 8 and 9 June, two days of open polls to allow for a greater influx of people.

For the third time we will therefore go to the vote on Saturday as already happened in 2004 and 2009 when Silvio Berlusconi was in government.

There will be 3,701 municipalities called to vote on that second weekend of June, for a total of almost 17 million voters.

Among these cities there are 27 provincial capitals and six regional ones: Bari, Cagliari, Campobasso, Florence, Perugia and Potenza.

During 2024 the governor will then be elected in Abruzzo, Basilicata, Piedmont, Sardinia and Umbria.

We start with Sardinia, where citizens will vote on February 25th.

On 10 March it will be Abruzzo's turn, while Piedmont, where around three million and 600 thousand voters are called to the polls, chooses to merge with election day on 8 and 9 June.

The last region to go to the polls, in chronological order, will be Umbria, in autumn.

However, Basilicata's decision is still awaited but could arrive in the next few hours.

According to what has been learned, the President of the Region Vito Bardi will establish the date of the vote and could soon dissolve the reservation.

Based on some rumours, the day chosen for the Lucanian regional elections could be Sunday 14 April and not election day.

In the decree law which determines the possibility of merging administrative, European and regional elections on 8 and 9 June, an increase in the compensation for polling station workers is also envisaged.

The Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, said this in a press conference after the Council of Ministers which approved the provision which also liberalizes the mandate of mayors for municipalities with less than 5 thousand inhabitants and brings it to three mandates for those between 5 thousand and 15 thousand.

This is because there is "an ever decreasing attractiveness" for the activity of polling attendant, with a "low participation which we are often forced to remedy with emergency measures in recent days", explained the minister.
