Even if the trend is towards a diet without animal products, meat sausage is on the menu for many people.

But which sausage is the best?

Kassel – Product tests are carried out again and again and ensure that the quality of different foods is recognized.

This also applies to a curry powder test.

Defects caused by pesticides were identified here.

Six different meat sausages were now tested - a popular dish among Germans, whether warm or for dinner.

But which meat sausages are convincing?

Is there a difference between expensive and cheap?

Meat sausage expensive or cheap?

These products were tested.

ZDF WISO tested this

and

compared different meat sausage products with each other.

The price categories: very different.

Both branded products and cheap alternatives from discounters were represented in the test.

To get one thing straight: one of the cheap discount sausages was particularly convincing to the experts.

  • “Alnatura”: 1.60 euros/100 g

  • “Wilhelm Brandenburg”: 1.50 euros/100 g

  • “Herta”: 0.80 euros/100 g

  • Penny “Mühlenhof”: 0.75 euros/100 g

  • Lidl “Dulano”: 0.61 euros/100 g

  • Aldi “ham meat sausage”: 0.58 euros/100 g

Expert convinced by Lidl meat sausage: “Impressed right from the start.”

The expert and sensory professor Manfred Winkler tested the taste and smell of the products.

One product in particular stood out to him: “What really impressed me about sample 6 was the bite that impressed me right from the start,” explains the expert.

Sample six, the “Dulano” meat sausage from Lidl, was particularly convincing to Winkler and was awarded top spot.

He rates the meat sausage from “Wilhelm Brandenburg” completely differently.

“But you also have to say that the differences in quality are actually relatively minimal,” says Winkler.

However, the passers-by surveyed have a completely different opinion than the expert.

Because they see the sausage from “Wilhelm Brandenburg” at the top.

Second and third place went to the Penny sausage and the “Herta” meat sausage.

Lidl and “Alnatura” share fourth and fifth place.

The meat sausage from Aldi was the least convincing.

She was ranked last by passersby.

Husbandry, quality and bacteria?

These are the results.

A further comparison takes place with the types of husbandry.

This is a four-tier system from 1: stable to 4: premium.

However, this will change in the future as the four husbandry methods will be replaced by five.

The information is currently voluntary, so it cannot be printed on every meat product.

Nevertheless, the husbandry form can be read on the three discounter products.

All three contain meat from class 2.

“Alnatura” meets the requirements of the EU organic regulation and is therefore comparable to the fourth level.

An inquiry from

WISO

to “Wilhelm Brandenburg” shows that the meat consists of levels one and two.

“Against this background, there is no corresponding, uniform award,” the statement says.

“Herta” does not respond to WISO’s request, so the type of husbandry remains unclear.

Ultimately, the quality and possible bacterial residues were also tested.

Fortunately, all products were convincing here.

“The meat quality of all six meat sausages was very good, all products met the requirements for top quality,” explains food technician Claudia Poßberg in the broadcast.

Likewise, no bacterial residues were found in any of the meat sausages and, as stated, the products only consisted of pork.

No other types of meat could be found.

Product tests are not always so positive.

Germs and bacteria were found in several ready-made pizzas.
