The ceremony for the 'Day of Remembrance' began at the Quirinale in the presence of the Head of State Sergio Mattarella.
In the Corazzieri hall there are among others the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the President of the Senate Ignazio La Russa and the President of the Chamber Lorenzo Fontana as well as some ministers including Crosetto, Piantedosi, Sangiuliano, Abodi.
Also in the front row were the leaders of the Jewish community including President Victor Fadlun, Noemi Di Segni, Antonella Di Castro and Mario Venezia at the helm of the Jewish museum in Rome.
Next to them Sami Modiano, Holocaust survivor.
In his speech for "Remembrance Day", the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, quotes Primo Levi: "The history of deportation and concentration camps cannot be separated from the history of fascist tyrannies in Europe: it represents the foundation led to 'extreme, beyond any limit of the moral law that is engraved in the human conscience."
"With these words", explained Mattarella, "Levi sculpted the judgment on the roots and primary responsibilities of the most serious extermination, organized and planned against women and men defined as inferior races, the most serious carried out in the history of humanity" .
