A passenger was arrested after protesting the plane's emergency exit onto the wing after a four-hour delay at Mexico City airport.
However, most passengers on the plane say it saved their lives.
Riots in Chisinau: A passenger returning from training opened the emergency window on the plane and boarded an
AeroMexico plane that was supposed to fly between Mexico City and Guatemala, parked and waiting for takeoff at Mexico City's international airport last Thursday, when the passenger, who felt disgusted by the long delay, exited the plane through the emergency door and then re-entered the cabin "without affecting the plane or anyone else," airport officials said.
He then turned himself in to police, according to the airport.
However, dozens of passengers signed a written statement claiming that the airline made them wait four hours without ventilation or water, while the flight was delayed.
They said the passenger's alleged outburst was "to protect everyone, with everyone's support."
"The delay and the lack of air created conditions that endangered the health of the passengers. It saved our lives," read one of the posts uploaded to the network that included photos and videos of the passengers.
At least 77 passengers on the flight signed the statement supporting the passenger's action, which was handwritten on notebook paper, the photos show.
An incident report submitted to the airport corroborates the passengers' testimonies.
"At around 11:37 a.m., a Mexican airline reported the start of an incident due to passenger dissatisfaction on flight AM672," according to the report published in the New York Times.
"The flight was supposed to take off at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, but due to a maintenance alert on the plane, the captain had to return to the gate for the required maintenance. The passengers were not happy and one of them opened the emergency door and went out onto the wing," the report said.
"This event requires the replacement of the plane."
In the video, which was apparently recorded inside the passenger cabin of the flight, passengers are seen waving to themselves for air and asking the flight attendant for water.
Flight tracking websites confirmed that flight AM672 to Guatemala City was delayed for four hours and 56 minutes on Thursday.
It is unclear if the passenger remains in custody or if he will face charges.
