"If Jannik went to the Sanremo Festival it would be a disappointment. Everyone would go, but he is different and I speak against my interests because Sinner in Sanremo would be a great promotion for us".
The president of Fitp, Angelo Binaghi, said this on the sidelines of the "Rappello Sport 2023" event at the Foro Italico.
"Even Meloni told him that he should go - says Binaghi - but Sinner must be protected by everyone: by managers because he shouldn't be exploited, by journalists and also by Sanremo. I'll go bare-chested if necessary. If we all want to to write a different story we must protect it."
"The meeting with Prime Minister Meloni was a wonderful meeting - Binaghi continues -. There was a long confrontation between two people with great personalities and intelligence despite being from different generations. Two strong winning personalities. I was the referee".
Speaking instead of the Sinner phenomenon after the recent successes both in the Davis Cup and in Melbourne he adds: "Coming from the other side of the world, there is a level of popularity achieved that I would never have imagined. Jannik can't be left alone anymore" .
And then he concludes: "He is a very positive character even outside of tennis and sport. At Premier Meloni I said that I hope he is an extraordinary tool for transmitting positive concepts especially to the new generations. Sinner is an Italian who is different from the stereotype to what we are used to."
