A very easy dessert that will be a hit with your guests: a piece of fine French chocolate tart, served with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream and fresh berries.

Every chocolate lover should try a French “Tarte au Chocolat” (translated as chocolate tart) at least once in their life.

Because unlike a simple chocolate cake, the flat chocolate cake is not airy and fluffy, but rather moist and creamy.

When baking, ideally a thin caramel crust forms over the juicy chocolate mixture, which crumbles slightly when cut.

So every forkful of cake is pure chocolate enjoyment.

A piece of France from the oven – quiche, croissants, tartlettes and co.

Anyone who has ever been to France knows that the popular holiday destination has much more to offer than the Eiffel Tower in Paris and endless lavender fields in Provence.

Similar to Italy, France can impress with its local cuisine in addition to its breathtaking nature, atmospheric towns and distinctive culture.

Among other things, you will definitely get your money's worth culinary in every small boulangerie (translated as bakery).

In addition to traditional pastries such as eclairs, macarons, pain au chocolat and buttery croissants, you will also find various cakes and tarts.

However, you can also bake it at home with little effort.

And if you want something hearty, we recommend a piece of hearty Quiche Lorraine with bacon and leek.

Ingredients for the delicious creamy “Tarte au Chocolat”

For a tart from a springform pan (Ø 24 cm) you need:

  • 200g butter

  • 200g sugar

  • 200 g dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa content)

  • 2 tbsp flour

  • 4 eggs

  • Optionally some powdered sugar or cocoa powder for dusting

Salt – an additional ingredient that is worthwhile:

Add a pinch of salt to the cake batter along with the chocolate-butter mixture and the flour.

As is now well known in the culinary world, almost every sweet dessert can tolerate a touch of salt.

This is demonstrated not least by the combination of salt and caramel, which is becoming increasingly popular and is being incorporated into all types of sweets.

You can bake an authentic French chocolate tart in no time

  • While the oven is preheating to 180 degrees, chop the chocolate and melt it together with the butter over a water bath.

  • Meanwhile, separate the eggs and beat the egg whites in a tall mixing bowl with a hand mixer until stiff.

Beat the egg yolks with the sugar in a large mixing bowl until creamy.

Sift the flour into the bowl, pour in the chocolate-butter mixture and stir everything together until smooth.

Then carefully fold in the beaten egg whites.

  • Pour the dough into a springform pan that has been greased with a little butter or lined with baking paper.

Now let the cake bake on the middle shelf in the preheated oven for about 25 to 30 minutes.

Then carry out the swab test.

Allow to cool and carefully remove from the baking pan.

Optionally garnish with a little powdered sugar or cocoa powder.

    Bon appetit!

  • How does the tart come out of the mold without any accidents?

This delicate tart melts in your mouth - and is correspondingly sensitive.

So that you can get the gem out of the mold as a whole, you should use a special tart pan with a lifting base

    for baking.

Because the base of this one can be removed and easily removed from the edge.

After half an hour of baking, the cake should be nice and moist and creamy, just as a true-to-original French “tarte au chocolat” should be.

However, if you would like the cake to be a little drier and more compact, we recommend a maximum baking time of 45 minutes.
