The signature to build the Cortina bobsleigh track from scratch for the 2026 Games arrived today.
Pizzarotti Srl, the only company to have responded to Simico's tender, signed the agreement this morning for the construction of the work according to the "light" project wanted by Deputy Prime Minister Salvini.
The minister himself made the announcement together with his colleague Abodi, confirming that "the track will remain in Italy", despite the negative opinions expressed several times by the IOC which would have preferred at this point a solution abroad and above all that it was already "working " and "existing".
But in the meantime the signature to start the works in Cortina has arrived and February 19th seems to be the date identified to start the construction site.
Furthermore, according to the contract, Pizzarotti will have 685 days to complete the work, therefore counting Saturdays and Sundays the construction should be completed by early January 2026, practically one month from the opening ceremony of Milan-Cortina.
But in terms of construction times for the casing, however, there is another date with a red circle on the calendar: 15 March 2025. By that day the track must be ready for a first test, the one in which the bobsleds and sleds evaluate the dangerousness of the curves to then put any corrections into practice.
In short, a real race against time;
for this reason the Foundation has always opened solution B abroad should the deadlines for Cortina not be respected.
The Minister of the Mef, Giorgetti, also spoke on the topic, saying that he was "beginning to regret having promoted the event".
A phrase which he later underlined was a "joke" but this does not take away the minister's concern on the issue of timing.
"I want to put a nice electronic board at the entrance to Valtellina that indicates how many days are left to realize the sense of urgency needed", added Giorgetti.
"I read about the bobsleigh track, little by little things are moving. The date is that - he concludes - it cannot be moved, we have to run more and recover".
