"Sport helps people build their future, it's been like this in my life and I'm happy to be able to do the same thing for the citizens of Genoa and all of Italy."
Mayor Marco Bucci, today in Rome, in the press room of the Olympic Stadium, presents the values and objectives of Genoa 2024 European Capital of Sport and reveals the program: more than 100 events in 32 sports disciplines, under the aegis of 28 federations.
"This 2024 will be a year full of winning events, opportunities for development and social and economic growth for Genoa: today this presentation in Rome confirms the success of this great program that we have foreseen, demonstrating the growing international scope of our city".
"It's the first time I've come to the Olympic stadium - adds Bucci - it's really beautiful, I envy you, there's so much space. We in Genoa have the sea, we can say that it's our Olympic stadium. Genoa, the city of sport, represents a lot, it's an event for all sports, even those on water, we want it to become an opportunity for everyone, we would have many atheists, tourists and many people. There is the opportunity to combine many other activities in addition to sport. We believe in this a lot, it will be an important year. At the end of June I am proud to say that we are inaugurating the Pala sport. We have many facilities refurbished. We are proud of the sporting culture, the first football club was founded in Genoa. Those who invest in sport are making an investment in young people, where they learn that work and "Effort is fundamental to winning. Anyone who has played sports as a young person is generally a good citizen. This is an enormous value on which we have worked and invested."
"We immediately supported this extremely important event - adds the mayor of Genoa - for the image of the Ligurian capital, for the tourist return it can generate, but also for the positive impact it has brought to Genoa's sports facilities. Practicing sport means health , brings benefits on a physical and psychological level and contributes to the growth of good citizens".
