Highlights: 47% Italians promote regional healthcare but 35% reject it in the South. Data emerges from the 21st 'Hospitals & Health' Report, promoted by Aiop (Italian Association of Private Hospitals) and produced in collaboration with Censis. The Report is a monitoring tool for the effectiveness and efficiency of the Italian hospital system, in both its components, public law and private law. It offers an evaluation of the National Health Service based on analyzes that take into account both official data published by the Ministry of Health and by Agenas.

47.7% of users have a positive perception of the health service in their region (SSR): 8.7% and 39% believe that local healthcare is of an excellent and good quality level, respectively. (HANDLE)

47.7% of users have a positive perception of the health service in their region (SSR): 8.7% and 39% believe that local healthcare is of an excellent and good quality level, respectively.

28.1% instead express a judgment of sufficiency and 22.4% believe that the Regional Health Service is below their expectations or needs, judging it 'insufficient'.

But if more than one citizen in 5 expresses a negative opinion, the insufficiency of their SSR is nevertheless reported by only 9.4% of residents in the North-East compared to as many as 35.2% of users living in the areas of the South.

The data emerges from the 21st 'Hospitals & Health' Report, promoted by Aiop (Italian Association of Private Hospitals) and produced in collaboration with Censis.

The Report is a monitoring tool for the effectiveness and efficiency of the Italian hospital system, in both its components, public law and private law, and offers an evaluation of the National Health Service based on analyzes that take into account both the official data published by the Ministry of Health and by Agenas and the direct experience of patients.

In particular, the SSR is judged insufficient by 19.4% of the citizens of the North-West of the country, by 9.4% of the North-East, by 17.7% of the Central regions and by 35.2% of the citizens of the Southern Islands.

However, 55.7% of citizens from the North-West, 66.7% from the North-East, 49.7% from the Center and 29% from the South and Islands give a 'positive' opinion.

Furthermore, we read in the survey, "an extreme heterogeneity emerges in the quality of the interventions and treatments offered by the NHS structures: a variability between geographical areas, but also within the same geographical area and between structures".

For example, in the cardiovascular area, while in the North, and even more so in the South and on the Islands, the proportion of 'high/very high quality' private law facilities is higher than that of public facilities (in the North 58% of public facilities are judged to be of high quality compared to 68% of accredited private companies and in the South 47% of public companies compared to 65% of accredited private companies), in the Center the situation is reversed (68% of public companies are judged to be of high quality compared to 44% of accredited private companies).

Furthermore, also in the Centre, low/very low quality structures are proportionally more among the accredited structures.
