He ends up in prison and has to fear for his own life. His colleagues from the police in Copenhagen begin to distance themselves from him. It quickly becomes clear that Carl's life is under serious threat among the incarcerated violent criminals, fraudsters and corrupt officials. But who is it who has put a million-dollar bounty on Carl's head - and for what reason? While Carl Mørck fights in the dark against the henchmen of the unknown mastermind, Rose, Assad and Gordon are busy unraveling the tangled and complex strands of the old case.
Jussi Adler-Olsen manages to build tension right from the start. It increases chapter by chapter. The reader finds himself in the cell with Carl Mørck, who fears for his life from day to day.
