Some complaints cause a lot of headaches online - including that of a hut visitor who got what he wanted in Bavaria.
Sonthofen - Normally, a Google review from a visitor to a hut in Bavaria would have received limited attention. A few of the restaurant's guests have probably read it, perhaps even the owner himself. But it is just one of more than 1,000 reviews (average rating 4.4 out of 5 stars) of a restaurant in Oberallgäu (Bavaria). And already seven months old.
Allgäu (Bavaria): Guest deducts 2 stars because extra-hot currywurst is extra-hot
But now a Reddit user became aware of it. He posted a screenshot in a group called “Smorgasbord of Entertaining Bad Online Reviews.” More than 600 upvotes (roughly equivalent to likes) and dozens of comments were received in the first three days. And many scoff or shake their heads.

“A nice place to stay,” writes the visitor. “The currywurst we chose was good. The fries warm. However, the curry sauce, which was ordered as extra spicy, was too spicy for me. Next time I'm sure there won't be any extra hot ones." The punch line: He only gives 3 out of 5 stars because the extra hot currywurst was extra hot. The Reddit user who discovered it commented in disbelief: "2 stars deducted because the extra hot currywurst is too hot... I'm slowly not being able to do any of this anymore."
“My hope for this world is shaky”: Restaurant review leaves many stunned
He is not alone in this. “I think my hope for this world is faltering!” says one user. “Because of people like this, 'extra hot' products are often only mildly hot,” complains another. One commented with well over 100 likes: “I always hate it when I receive exactly what I ordered!” Another commented similarly sarcastically: “Just getting what I ordered, where are we from?” However, it remains unclear whether the following comment is meant seriously: “When you say extra spicy, you always mean just a little spicy. Why don't some people understand this? Review justified.”

Another is rather bothered by the sight of the dish: “That’s not a currywurst??? Does the 'currywurst' look like this everywhere outside of the Ruhr area or what??" By the way, it is not clear from the Reddit thread which restaurant it is - a hut in Oberallgäu. The discoverer revealed this to our editorial team, and the review can actually be found there. And also a currywurst “with a very hot special sauce” (that’s the exact wording) and French fries for 15.50 euros on the menu.

For one user, the currywurst thing is emblematic of Google reviews: “That's why I first read through the 'bad' reviews on Maps to see whether something is really wrong or whether a few people have simply given stupid reviews. The best hospital I know, where they really take their time and treat you with kindness and empathy, has 3 stars on Maps. Why? Because people are taking too long in the emergency room. 1 star because they waited 2 hours to have a complaint and then weren't immediately put first in triage. That’s just sad and drags down the cut for no reason.”
Restaurant special requests always cause online discussions
Is this the complaining mentality that some people consider to be typically German? And which even ensured that the North Sea (!) gets negative Google reviews? Another user sums it up: “I think I'm going to eat something that I don't like at all soon so that I can then complain about it.” Extra requests always cause online discussions. A restaurant visitor was furious because she was refused a children's schnitzel as an adult - and tried a trick. A guest at another restaurant, however, received the special order he wanted, but was extremely dissatisfied with the corresponding bill.
