Storm Nelson hit Spain this Thursday. Four people died, swept away by the sea, on the northwest and northeast coasts of this country, swept by violent winds and waves several meters high.
“Two people died after falling into the sea in Muros de Nalón and Cudillero,” said a statement from the Emergency Service of Asturias, a region in the northwest of the country, where waves reached up to seven meters high according to the Spanish meteorological agency.
A body airlifted to Asturias
Firefighters hoisted “the lifeless body of a man” who had fallen from a dike in Muros de Nalón onto a helicopter. They had been warned early in the afternoon that “a person had just fallen into the sea”.
At the same time, emergency services were called due to the fall of a woman in the port of Cudillero, her body “hitting against the rocks”. “Rescued by a boat which brought her back to port, the woman was unconscious.” Rescuers tried to revive her for an hour, but she died.

Drowned while providing rescue
A little later in the afternoon, it was on the Catalan coast (northeast) that a 16-year-old Moroccan minor fell into the water on the beach of Tarragona, the Civil Guard said. AFP, confirming information from Spanish media.

A 32-year-old German who was passing by then jumped into the water to try to help him, the Civil Guard continued, but they both drowned. The Spanish meteorological agency issued an orange alert on the northwest coasts to warn of the dangerous seas on Thursday.
