The 'crypto king' SamBankman-Fried will know today how many years he will have to spend in prison. Found by the jury guilty of all the charges brought against him, the former CEO of FTX was accused of fraud for stealing billions from his FTX customers. The hearing before Judge Lewis Kaplan will begin soon and Bankman-Fried faces over 100 years in prison.
The awaited sentence officially marks the fall of what was considered the king of crypto, the one who with his digital currency exchange platform and his way of doing business had enchanted Washington and attracted celebrities such as football star Tom Brady and his ex-wife, the model Gisele Bundchen. FTX suddenly collapsed causing the loss of billions of dollars for hundreds of its customers. Bankman-Fried, the then CEO, was immediately charged and in December 2022 he agreed to leave his home in the Bahamas to return to the United States to face the charges against him.
