In France, around 2.3% of the population is HPI, or High Intellectual Potential. These personalities were once called gifted, then precocious. But what exactly does this mean? “We speak of an HPI person when their cognitive functioning is much higher than the norm, i.e. a total intelligence quotient (IQ) greater than or equal to 130,” indicates Élodie Parisato, neuropsychologist. This score is obtained after carrying out various randomized tests with a psychologist. “But to define an HPI person, we must also confirm creativity and particular sensitivity,” adds Frédérique Bertin, psychologist specializing in HPI.
