The World Economic Forum (WEF, headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland) announced the latest version of the “Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report” on the 4th. Japan ranked 4th out of 140 countries and regions, 1st Spain, 2nd France, 3rd Germany and the same ranking as last year. The report pointed out that tourism demand is increasing globally and alarmed the burden on tourist destinations.
The report uses 14 items in four fields: policy, infrastructure, environment, natural and cultural resources, and evaluates the attractiveness as a tourist destination. Japan was highly acclaimed for its “international openness”, “land and port infrastructure” and “cultural resources and business travel”, and was ranked 9th to 4th. It was first in the Pacific region.
Spain, which maintained the overall ranking, was recognized for its wealth of tourism resources and services to tourists. The United States overtook the UK and finished fifth, but the top ten remained unchanged.
