After Senftleben resignation: Redmann becomes new CDU parliamentary leader in Brandenburg

The CDU parliamentary group in Brandenburg has a new chairman: Jan Redmann was unanimously elected successor to Ingo Senftleben. He competed unopposed.

A few days after the resignation of Ingo Senftleben, the CDU parliamentary group of Brandenburg has agreed on his successor. Jan Redmann was unanimously elected as the new Group leader. He was the only candidate standing for election.

Thus also the critics of Senftleben voted for the former parliamentary managing director. The former CDU state and faction leader Senftleben had announced last Friday to resign his office. The move was preceded by a power struggle between the conservative and liberal wing around Senftleben.

Prior to the state election in Brandenburg, Senftleben had excluded only a coalition with the AfD, but not with the left. That earned him criticism in parts of his party. After the election, MEPs Saskia Ludwig and Frank Bommert called for his resignation. Without them and other in-party opponents of mustard life, a possible Kenya alliance would have no majority.

In the coming week, the deputies of Redman are now to be elected. Also in Brandenburg it continues to the formation of a government. The SPD continues its exploratory talks this week. The Social Democrats want to talk to the Greens and the Left in the coming days - and now again with the CDU.

The CDU had lost heavily in the state elections in Saxony and Brandenburg. In Brandenburg, the party came to historically poor 15.6 percent - and was thus far behind the AfD, which was the second strongest force in the state, in third place. Within the party there was criticism of mustard life.
