Here you will find the most important news of the day, the most popular stories of SPIEGEL + and tips for your end of workday.

The topic of the day: short-term choice in Austria

In the beginning there was a scandal. The Ibiza affair surrounding ex-FPÖ leader and Vice-Chancellor Christian Strache caused a government crisis in Austria, the collapse of the coalition, the successful vote of no confidence against Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) and finally for new elections. So questions came up: what damage do the governing parties take? Who benefits? What's next?

What is remarkable above all is that the center-right camp from the ÖVP and the FPÖ has barely lost all together, coming to just under 56 percent, just under two percent less than two years ago. Although the Ibiza video has "shaken the foundations of the republic, but not the majority of voters," commented our correspondent Walter Mayr.

Sebastian Kurz: 38 percent for the ÖVP

But there are big differences between the two former coalition partners: The right-wing party FPÖ has clearly lost (and then had to endure the ridicule of the "Kronen" newspaper). The conservative ÖVP, however, has increased. David Schalko, TV writer and director, writes in a guest post on Kurz: "38 percent have chosen the man who bothered them the least with content."

And with the Greens (+8.6 percent), there is another clear winner. What does that mean for possible coalitions? Walter Mayr writes about four to five options, Hasnain Kazim explains the situation in the video. Especially in the possibility of a Black-Green Government sees the poet, theater and novelist Franzobel "an opportunity for Austria," as he writes in his guest post. But several newspapers are already pointing out how difficult negotiations could be - the press.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte calls tax evasion "the mother of all problems". And in Italy especially many taxes are evaded. This works mainly because the Italians are still strong on cash - and can trick easier. But now Conte wants to fight tax evasion by trying to curb the cash business - with a reward for the honest: who pays a lot with a card (either a certain amount or a certain portion of its expenses), which is to be reimbursed by the end of the year ten percent of its expenses to get. An exact regulation still has to follow.

My evening: the recommendations for your end of workday

What you can see: Already on Sunday evening ZDFneo broadcasted the last episodes of the series "Druck". Lucky you can see all four seasons online too. For our author Elisa von Hof, "Druck" belongs to the best German series of the past years. It depicts the life of a group of teenagers and is aimed primarily at young people. The special thing about it: "Here act figures that are usually in vain on German television," von Hof writes. Which these are, she explains in her review. All episodes can be found here.
