Should AfD politician Stephan Brandner continue to chair the Legal Committee in the Bundestag? The German Bar Association (DAV) and the German Association of Women Lawyers (djb) consider him no longer tenable and demand Brandners immediate resignation. This was announced by the organizations in a communication.

In one case, he shared a message in which after the fact was read that politicians "lounging" in front of synagogues. He also referred to the publicist and former Vice President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Michel Friedman, as "German Michel".
DAV and djb spoke of despicable statements. "Even outside of committee meetings, the office of the chairman demands to always respect people," said DAV President Edith Kindermann. Brandner himself not only shared the letter demanding his resignation against him, but also a Twitter message stating that the tweets had already been reported as inappropriate. Brandner added the hashtag "Meldemuschis".

After failing to do so, he shot two people in the street and severely injured two others. The 27-year-old sits in pre-trial detention, he has confessed to the act and said that he acted for right-wing extremist and anti-Semitic motives.
Djb's President Maria Wersig pointed out that in spring 2018, the associations called for not appointing Brandner chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee. "His current behavior clearly shows how right our appeal was," said Wersig.
