Key figure in trade dispute with China: Trump loses important economic advisor

2019-10-23T04:55:39.936Z

Kelly Ann Shaw prepared G7 and G20 summits for the US government and advised President Trump on the trade dispute with China. Now she leaves her post after less than a year - the succession is still unclear.

Kelly Ann Shaw is one of the key advisors to US President Donald Trump's business team - but not for long. Shaw will vacate her post on Friday. She would instead take a job in the private sector, the White House said.

"It just seemed like the right time to go," Shaw told Reuters. She worked for the US government for ten years, although it was originally supposed to be just three and is now "ready for my next and new adventure." She did not want to give more details.

Shaw prepared key international meetings for the US government, including G7 and G20 summits, and advised Trump on the trade dispute with China. The agreement, which has last hinted between the two countries, will no longer see Shaw as a consultant. "I have extremely capable colleagues who now take the reins," said the outgoing counselor.

Succession still unclear

She had only succeeded Clete Willems at the beginning of this year as Deputy Assistant to the President for International Economic Affairs and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council.

Economic Council Chairman Larry Kudlow thanked Shaw in a statement for her "key role in the implementation of the US trade and economic agenda" and said she would be missed. To succeed Shaw Kudlow wanted to give no information.
