2019-11-29T12:20:07.545Z

The Anti-Amendment Campaign triggered a series of police-civilian conflicts. Middle-aged male chefs were accused of assaulting police officers during a clash in Mong Kok in September, yelling "the black police killed the whole family" and punching the sheriff. When the defendant first appeared in court, the media stated that the defendant had not attacked the police. The prosecution today (29th) applied to the court for the withdrawal of the charges and agreed to pay the costs. The amount is pending. The male chef revealed that the police had said "play hard you" at the time of the arrest. He thanked RTHK and the reporters for taking pictures of the situation, and said, "If you can't go without law, you will be lawless."

Chef Chen Yaojun (54 years old) was originally charged with attacking a police officer who was on duty at the junction of Sai Yeung Choi Street South and Hoi Street on September 21 this year. The case was postponed three times earlier, and was re-opened on the 13th of the next month, but the prosecution applied to the court for withdrawal.

The prosecution has not opposed the defense application for costs. If the two parties fail to agree on the amount within two months, the costs will be assessed by the court. The male chef's appearance in court was "too much (to be caught by the case)", for example, sometimes he could not go to work for the purpose of an interview, and he was restricted from leaving the country. He revealed that during the arrest, police officers stated "stubbornly" and "play you". He reiterated that he was a master at that time, and there was no attack. The police apparently arrested him and asked: "Say I attack the police? Click the police?"

No private prosecution considered

Someone suggested to the male chef that the police could be prosecuted privately for obstruction of justice, but he said that his family might not support it, so he did not intend to do so.

It is understood that the police sergeant Bai Yan had confessed that he had been attacked by a male chef, and the defense team had collected footage from Hong Kong and Taiwan before his first court appearance. The cost of this case is estimated to be 6 figures.
