German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet US President Donald Trump next Wednesday on the sidelines of the NATO summit in London. This was announced by deputy government spokeswoman Ulrike Demmer.
Demmer said nothing about the topics of the conversation. Most recently Merkel met the US president on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Biarritz. The NATO summit will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Alliance.
Before the start, Merkel will meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron for talks on Syria on Tuesday.
Turkey invaded northern Syria in October to fight the Kurdish militia YPG. The Federal Government sees this as a violation of international law military action.
The United States was aware of the Turkish invasion and in the days before withdrew its forces from northern Syria, where until then they had fought with the YPG militia the terrorist group "Islamic State". The Kurds then accused the Trump government of abandoning their allies.
