At a recent election campaign, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson jokingly bragged about eating the "sausage rolls" of bakery chain Greggs, so popular in the country, that he virtually "made Greggs". In an interview with the radio station LBC, he now had to admit that he does not know how much such a sausage in puff pastry costs.
"Last time you bought a sausage roll at Greggs, Mr. Prime Minister, how much did you cost?" The moderator asked. Johnson laughed first and then stammered, "I do not know, I give up." He had to know that he was Greggs, the moderator joked. "1.90 pounds, I have no idea," the head of government replied.
Johnson does not want interference from Trump - and says nothing to his children
In the interview Johnson also talked about the Brexit, his children and possible interference by Donald Trump in the British election campaign. It would be better, according to Johnson, if Trump does not comment on the upcoming election in Britain on his upcoming visit to London. The United States and Britain have traditionally not interfered in each other's election campaigns as allies, Johnson said. The US President will travel to a NATO summit in the British capital next week.
The British elect a new parliament on 12th December. Surveys suggest that Johnson's conservatives are well ahead. If the Tories win a "working majority" in the election, Britain will leave the EU "by 31 January at the latest," Johnson said.
One topic Johnson did not want to engage with was his children. When asked how many he has, the British Prime Minister says, "I love my children very much, but they are not available for election, so I will not comment on that." Johnson's love and family life has been a hot topic in the British gossip press in the past.
