If efforts to form a government fail by next Wednesday at midnight, the following elections will be held on one of three possible dates: February 25, March 3 or March 17. According to the Hebrew calendar, the dates are: L. Shevat, Zadar or Kadar, respectively. However, in order to hold elections on one of the first two dates, the Knesset will be required to make legislative changes before its automatic dissolution on Wednesday. MK Avi Nissenkorn (Blue and White) spoke last day (Monday) with the CEO of Eliad's election committee, and made it clear that the elections could be pre-scheduled for the end of February in a way that the committee can properly prepare for them.

Nissenkorn is holding talks with the Knesset factions in order to try to reach as broad an agreement as possible on an agreed date for elections. According to the law, third elections will be held on the last Tuesday before the 90th day of Knesset dispersal. In the present case, the Knesset is expected to automatically dissipate at midnight on Wednesday, after the 21-day mandate for the government's assembly in the Knesset. This means that the elections on the original date were scheduled for March 10. This date is very problematic in that it is a Purim holiday, a date that is objectionable among most factions in the Knesset. Therefore, the alternative is to precede the elections or after them.

If one of the Knesset members, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or MK Blue Ben Gantz, will get 61 signatures by next Wednesday at midnight, the elections will be postponed for a later date. However, this possibility is low, especially in light of the words of Israeli House Speaker MK Avigdor Lieberman that he will not sign any candidate as long as there is no real intention on the part of the major parties to form a unity government.

The Central Election Commission was informed this evening that "the CEO of the Central Election Committee has confirmed that at a working meeting between him and MK Avi Nissenkorn, the possibility of anticipating the election date as far as possible will be considered, should they occur with the dissolution of the Knesset at the end of the 21-day period." The election committee added that "the meeting presented the complex work processes required by the commission by virtue of the electoral law and with all the difficulties involved. It appeared that the closest date for elections to be possible under the provisions of the law is February 25".
