The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants announced the winners of the 20th "Best Corporate Governance Award 2019". This year's conference presented a total of 26 awards, 3 more than in previous years, and the number is the highest ever. The jury believes that listed companies and public institutions have worked hard to improve the quality of corporate governance in Hong Kong over the years to ensure that Hong Kong is in line with international standards and overall performance has improved.

However, the Diamond Award in recognition of the best governance is still vacant. Deng Yuanyi, Chairman of the "Best Corporate Governance Awards 2019" Preparatory Committee explained that even organizations with excellent governance have room for improvement, hoping to encourage companies and institutions to strive for excellence .

Many listed companies and institutions won awards for the first time

Many institutions and companies have won awards for the first time this year, including AAC Technologies (2018), NWS Holdings (0659), China Mobile (0941), Vitasoy (0345), etc.

Luo Fuyuan, Chairman of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Chairman of the Jury of the "Best Corporate Governance Award 2019" said that fierce competition in the global market and a sound corporate governance system will help maintain investor and public confidence in the prospects of Hong Kong's capital market and strengthen Hong Kong's reputation as a leading international financial centre.

However, as the amendments to the Corporate Governance Code and related Listing Rules came into effect earlier this year, he suggested that companies and institutions should increase the transparency, accountability and diversity of board operations.
