After the meeting, the two parties issued a joint statement that the EU will strengthen cooperation with China in various fields and foretells that a special EU-China summit will be held in Germany in 2020, when all EU member states will attend.

However, Burrell said in a statement that Europe and China did not agree on some issues and believed that human rights should be taken into account when promoting partnership. Burrell specifically mentioned the human rights situation in Xinjiang and Hong Kong.

Wang Yi said that China and the EU have more consensus than disagreement, cooperation is greater than competition, partners are not rivals, and are an inseparable community of interests. Both sides support multilateralism, multilateral trade, and safeguard the authority of the United Nations and the rules of international law.

However, due to the differences in historical and cultural backgrounds and social system models, it is normal for some differences to exist, but differences should not be an obstacle to communication. Wang Yi emphasized that China stands for non-interference in each other's internal affairs, and opposes EU interference in China's internal affairs.
