(CNN Spanish) - In the midst of a process that, I believe, would weaken Donald Trump - although he does not prosper - as is the impeachment or political trial, and in the face of mistakes in his administration, the president of the United States It gives a masterful blow to one of the oldest forms of discrimination in history: anti-Semitism.
Through a decree, Trump threatens to take budgets from study houses that are dedicated to promoting Israel's demonization and attacking thousands of Americans in attention to their faith. He has pointed out to universities: "If they want to accept the tremendous amounts of federal funds they get each year, they have to reject anti-Semitism." This should be extended to all forms of discrimination.
There are universities that, incorrectly interpreting freedom of expression, have become centers of support and promotion of the purest hatred against Judaism. Some do so by promoting the so-called commercial blockades that in the end do not affect an economy as solid as the Israeli one, but they are still discriminatory, and it is known that other ends are hidden behind it.
It is good to remember that the boycott and the attack on Israel in the United States gets support through congressmen legislators such as Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, for example, whose messages are penetrating among young university students, who are fed today by these signs of hate. These women forget that, in their parents' country of origin, they could never express themselves in public or choose their clothes; much less they could have opted for a public office.
The next purpose of these anti-Semitic campaigns is exclusively to try to delegitimize Israel; They forget that this is the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people, which continues to contribute to humanity for almost 4,000 years, which have survived all their enemies and today is the only democracy in the Middle East.
Withdrawal of financial support to institutions that promote anti-Semitism is an effective way to combat it.
Today, I have to say to Mr. Trump: Chapeau! As Elie Wiesel said: “Before the atrocities we have to take sides; (…) Silence stimulates the executioner ”.
