The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman reiterated Beijing's strong rejection of the "unjustified accusations leveled by the American side regarding its position," stressing that "the United States politicizes humanitarian issues and follows double standards."
Geng said that China is voting in the UN Security Council "on the basis of right and wrong," noting that the permanent representative of China to the United Nations, Ambassador Zhang Jun, explained China's position in his statement to the Security Council that China cast its vote based on the merits of the issue itself and the basic interests of the Syrian people, stressing However, China firmly rejects the baseless accusations from the United States.
Geng asked if the United States was genuinely concerned with the Syrian people and the humanitarian situation in Syria "why did they not vote in favor of the Russian draft resolution as they had every opportunity to fulfill their promise to the Syrian people," stressing that "Washington's failure to vote on the Russian draft indicates once again that their interest is limited With hypocrisy they follow a typical double standard which is concrete evidence of the politicization of humanitarian issues. ”
On Friday, Russia and China used a veto against a draft Security Council resolution on the transfer of humanitarian aid to Syria that would exploit the humanitarian situation there and violate its sovereignty.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry reiterated yesterday the necessity of full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, stressing that any decisions regarding the introduction of humanitarian aid across the border must be approved by the Syrian government, noting at the same time that Beijing voted against the draft resolution on humanitarian aid based on the merits of the issue And the basic interests of the Syrian people.
On the other hand, China warned that the United States is turning the universe into a "battlefield", stressing that it is arming outer space by announcing the creation of a new military arm under the name "space force".
"These American actions violate the international consensus regarding the peaceful use of outer space ... and constitute a direct threat to security and peace in outer space," the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said in this regard, calling on the international community to adopt a responsible and wise approach to preventing the transformation of outer space into a new battlefield.
The "Space Force" will become the sixth branch of the US armed forces, after land, sea, air, marines, and coast guard weapons.
Last Friday, US President Donald Trump ratified the Military Budget Act 2020, which includes the creation of a space force whose mission is to secure American hegemony on the ground, citing "facing the Russian and Chinese challenge."
