There were no reports of fatalities in an accident near Williamsburg, but more than 50 people were injured, including two people. It is not yet known what caused the accident, which happened at 8:00 a.m., but police said the fog and ice on the road contributed to her.
Pictures from the road showed a pile of cars crashing into each other along the way, as rescue teams carved their way through the vehicles to reach the injured. Only a few hours later, all the cars were evacuated and the road reopened to traffic.
Truck driver Ivan Liwai told the Associated Press that he saw a thick fog in front of him and began to slow down and turn on his fog lights. "The next thing I've seen is cars that started piling on each other," he added. His wife, who was driving a separate car, was involved in the accident as well, but she was not seriously injured.
